What started as three friends with a mutual love for blues music, good wine, and pasta was the catalyst for the electrifying bluesy-soul band ‘Sons of Rhythm’. The band originally started as a trio - comprised of Mick Maratta on lead vocals and bass, Federico Luiu on electric guitar and Mike Carbone on drums. The trio played their first performance opening for British Blues Guitarist of the Year Matt Schofield. After a well received first show the boys knew that they were onto something special. It was then that they decided to add sax and keys playing from some of Toronto's finest session musicians to the mix. From there the sound of ‘Sons of Rhythm’ was born. The blend of fiery electric guitar, wailing saxophone, funk thumpin’ bass, swelling B3, melodious vocals and pocket rhythms creates a unique sound that is completely their own but still carries a sense of familiarity. In the short time the group has been together they have been able to captivate audiences with creative arrangements of old standards as well as catchy, energetic originals. They have performed at numerous venues and festivals across Southern Ontario and Quebec including Montreal Jazz Festival, Sound of Music Festival, and Violet’s Venue to name a few. Over the last year, ‘Sons Of Rhythm’, continued to cultivate their sound and decided to bring it into the studio. They are currently finishing their debut EP, which will be released in early spring 2018.
